Watch the Journal News interview with Sandy

There is a lot of talk on the campaign trail of cutting wasteful government spending. However, it seems that few candidates are specific on the subject. One who is specific is Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, D-Ossining. I was browsing her website recently and was especially impressed by how specific she is on the subject of fiscal reform. To cut costs and save money, she would: 1. Prevent local and county governments from being burdened with program and service expansion they cannot afford by limiting unfunded mandates. 2. Require that cost implications of legislation are included in all pending bills. 3. Ensure pork spending is subject to regulations that would mandate equal distribution of funds. 4. Consolidate services at local and county levels.
I urge my fellow constituents in Sandy's district to re-elect her to help ensure that a heavy dose of fiscal sense is injected into Albany in these tough economic times.

Galef is a role model in the AssemblyAs election season heats up, we keep hearing so many negative messages about what's wrong in Albany and what's not being done. This is why it is so important that we keep elected officials who do their jobs well working for us — officials like Assemblywoman Sandy Galef, D-Ossining, who is getting things done.
Sandy personifies integrity, experience and leadership. She is well known and respected for her willingness to challenge our Legislature to deliver on-time budgets; accountable for taxpayer dollars through initiatives like the circuit breaker tax relief bill; seeks greater efficiency through consolidation of services; and prohibit "pork" spending or member items.

To the editor:
When a neighbor told me the medical clinic I used was closing without informing their patients, I called immediately to retrieve my medical records.
My records did not arrive. When I inquired, I was put off, “The records have been moved and it will take at least a month.” By that time the medical clinic closed and I had no access and no working number to call. My husband is a heart patient who has undergone a quintuple bypass. All of our medical records had been sent to our primary care physician at the medical clinic.
My physician she told me that the medical clinic claimed all the records as well as all patient contact information as their property. I called the Board of Health and contacted several local and state politicians. One responded.
Sandy Galef called me back. She contacted the Board of Health. She contacted the medical clinic. And she called me back to let me know what progress her office was making.
The medical clinic called a few days later. “Oh, we didn’t know you wanted your records. We will send them out tomorrow. So sorry.” The records arrived that week.
This is how I got to know Sandy Galef. I experienced first-hand what a compassionate and efficient person she is. I am grateful that Assemblywoman Galef is in Albany because of her concern for her constituents at home. I am proud of all she has accomplished.
With all the talk about change, let’s not change someone who supports us.

Unlike many in our state legislature, Assemblywoman Sandy Galef worksttirelessly and effectively for her constituents.
When I contacted her last spring about the dangers posed by the lack of road reflectors and the poor condition of the median barrier on Route 9A through Briarcliff and Ossining, she immediately began a dialogue with the Department of Transportation - and continued to press the DOT - until it committed to install reflectors on the road by the end of this year. It may seem like a trivial concern but it is a non-partisan issue that may very well save the lives of people who travel the twisty, dark road every day.
Other state elected officials I contacted were not anywhere as communicative or diligent in pursuing the matter. As a 27-year resident of her district, I have seen her longtime effectiveness and enthusiastically support Ms. Galef's re-election bid.

I encourage all those who would like a hard working representative in Albany to effectively represent then to support the re-election of Sandy Galef to the New York State Assembly in November. Sandy is absolutely a full time legislator, even though the position itself is considered part time. She never rests, spending her time away from Albany in the communities she represents. It is a rare event in Putnam Valley that she does not attend.
This past year, Putnam Valley had some issues getting adequate and timely storm response from NYSE. Sandy set up a meeting with emergency responders and NYSEG to address the Town’s concerns. We were able to review problems and come up with a plan for future emergencies so that we can be sure Putnam Valley residents will be safe and secure. Sandy was there for us, proactive and involved. She even helped one of my neighbors connect with the right people in the federal government when my neighbor’s son was having trouble getting home from a journey abroad.
She has continued to find new approaches to lowering property taxes for homeowners, whether through legislation or helping with grassroots efforts locally. Sandy’s experience, dedication, time and involvement consistently pay off for us. I know I will support her at the polls in November.
Sincerely,
